Brand & trademark
The OpenDeck code is open (Apache-2.0) and the .deck
format is public domain (CC0). The name, logo, and icon
are not — they are trademarks of the OpenDeck project. This page explains, plainly, what's
fine and what isn't, so you never have to guess.
You're welcome to
- Say your project "reads OpenDeck
.deckfiles" or is "compatible with OpenDeck." - Link to OpenDeck and use the name to refer to this project.
- Fork the app and the kit, and build your own player or producer.
The one rule for forks
A build you ship to end users — to an app store or anywhere else — must use its own name and icon, not "OpenDeck" and not the OpenDeck mark. This is the single thing that keeps the official store listing unambiguous and keeps the field level for everyone. Concretely:
- Pick a different product name and a different app icon.
- Don't imply your build is the official OpenDeck or is endorsed by it.
